Hello all what’s the best cpu right now to buy between I7 6700k, I7 7700k, I7 9700k. This will be for gaming. Will pair with a gtx 970 sc for now.  Will also need motherboard recommendations and fan. Will like something not to break the bank that bad.

9700k. The other two are on dead platforms. If you can find an 8700k for cheaper than go with that instead as it performs the same as a 9700k.

Gigabyte Z390 Aorus boards are the best for overclocking.

Cooler is up to you. Anything tier 3 or above will be sufficient for a decent overclock:

bit of a weird question, since you haven't given any constraints or parameters. 9700k is the best out of that group but i dont see a point in spending $700 to into 9th gen for a 970. With a 970 I wouldn't even bother with going Intel. I'd just get a 2600 ryzen 5 and B450 board or maybe a taichi X470 which would cost only like 260-350 depending on the board you get which depends if you want  toupgrade within a year or 2 to a high/enthusiast end GPU .

i'd wait for CES and zen 2, but if you really don't wanna wait then any gigabyte z390+9700k will do the job.

wouldnt expect being able to buy zen 2 for another 6 months at least. not saying it wont be interesting but its a long time to wait if you want something now

Was thinking on waiting for ces but just wanted to ask. Also if it helps I only plan on playing on 1080p would like to play on high and ultra settings on up coming games. I know that gpu is not the best but for now that’s what I got.

The 9700K is the best out of those. You don't need all that power if you're just gaming, though. The 9600K/8600K will do just fine. If you go Ryzen, who knows, maybe you can get a better GPU. I wouldn't get anything less than 8th gen Intel, though.
