GPU and Thunderbolt

Lets say that my setup has GPU X, and my motherboard has Thunderbolt 3 support. If I use an HDMI adapter from that thunderbolt port, will the GPU be used as the device powering graphics?

 

I would just test this myself but I don't have the setup I just mentioned.

No. In order for an eGPU to work you have to be hooked up to it via that thunderbolt port and your video out needs to be coming from the GPU, unless you have a laptop. 

 

I'm not aware of anything other than laptops having loop back support which would send the video signal back to the motherboard at a significant performance loss.

I figured as much, but to clarify what I'm implying is not a laptop, but to dump a PC in a basement or something, and then run a thunderbolt cable up to the room and just have a dongle there where I can interact with the PC.
