So up until now, I've been just fine with only a top intake and rear exhaust fan. I installed an RX 580 recently and that thing heats up pretty good, making the side of the case hot to the touch. I'm thinking of putting another fan there and I'm assuming it should be exhaust to get that heat away from the card and out of the case. What fan directions would be optimal in this case using 3 fans?

i would say adding a front intake, preferably where the RX 580 is , to supply it with fresh air, and have a positive pressure set up

Do you have some special case? If not, the optimal setup is 2 front in, 1 rear out.

This.
