Building for the first time. Currently using Dell XPS 15 9560 w/ i7-7700HQ@2.8, 32GBDDR4-2400,GTX1050,4K screen.

Also can you please recommend a monitor for the system. Will run dual monitors, preferably 1440p, with more than 120hz.

Worth noting is I have access to Microcenter.

EDIT: Budget for the monitor is around $600-700.(One Monitor)

Why the 970 pro? Id get the evo, and the 1tb version if you can. The MLC won't help you much here and the extra space is nice.

Id replace the 4tb black drive with a 8tb drive. There faster(even the 5400rpm versions) and about the same space, and ahve more storage.

The MLC was pretty much the reason why I went with pro.

Replaced the SSD. Do I go with Black in the 8TB or any other?

Id just get any 8tb drive. Id get one of those 8tb external drives from wd.

The MLC really won't help you here, your not doing that many writes.

I would either get an i9 or an 8700k. The 9700k is just a bad cpu for the price you pay.

I wouldn't be building for another 3-4 years and price isn't a constraint so might as well go for the i9. I would be doing more CPU intensive tasks during compiling and running tests on systems(Pen Testing) thus the 2080.

If your not building for that much longer, don't plan now, all the parts will be different by then. Come back here when your ready to buy.

Oh I meant I am building now but will be using the system for another 3-4 years

Get a Corsair RM750x instead, it's much more quiet than the G3 750W.

You haven't mentioned budget. Check out the ROG Swift PG279Q.

Check the particular applications that you're using, if they can leverage multicore performance then for the price of the CPU & Motherboard you picked, you can easily have a 12-core Threadripper CPU.

I would get the 9700K over the 8700K too. Sometimes $50-100 isn't that big of a deal. Plus the 9700K is $389 on newegg with a coupon so ya, I would still go 9700K if it was within budget.

That's sounds like something I could do. How long do you think it might take for those chips to hit the market? Also are Ryzen/Threadripper chips comparable in terms of performance.

I use hashing/password cracking applications which can take advantage of multiple cores and in some cases I can even use the GPU to crack those hashes.

If 50 to 100 isn't a big deal then get the i9. If not get the 8700k. The 9700k and the 8700k trade blows when both are overclocked to the same clocks. The only reason you see all the benchmarks with the 9700k with better scores is because of the faster all core turbo. 4.7ghz on the 9700k and 4.3 ghz on the 8700k so it's obvious that the 9700k is faster at stock but if you are buying either if these chips you won't be running stock.

No, that doesn't mean just get the 9900K. There's no reason for the 9900K unless you need the Hyperthreading. If you want the latest and greatest the 9700K is the way to go. If I'm building a New PC, guess what? I'm using the NEWEST parts! That doesn't mean I'm getting the top of the line highest core count with hyperthreading. The 9700K is the newest best I7. Get over it.

Maybe a month or two. I'm really not sure tbh. But it's worth the wait IMO.

Current Ryzen/Threadripper chips have IPC than Intel's offerings atm. Might change once Zen 2 chips are relased.

The 9700k gets beat by the 8700k in blender even when both are at stock....

The best is the 9900k and the 9700k is just a crap i7 that will be outdated much earlier due to the lack of hyperthreading.

Im pretty sure when it comes down to it, both are more than capable. Sorry if I seemed rude.

I was just trying to say the price difference doesn't justify going with the 8700k, for me. They're both $300 something in the US. I shouldn't have said $50 to 100 doesn't matter, lol. If it's over  a $50 difference then I'd say it's probably not worth it for the average user.

Yeah it's a $50 difference where I am so it makes little sense if you plan on overclocking.
