8th or 9th Gen?

Looking to upgrade from my old 4790k system. Wondering if I should go 8600k or 9600k. This system will pretty much only be for gaming so that's why I'm not going the Ryzen route. Any suggestions/opinions on the matter are greatly appreciated!

The 9600k is soldered under the heat spreader so that give better temps for overclocking. The 9600k also has a higher stock speeds than the 8600k so unless money is an issue for this the 9600k is a better choice.

welcome to the Linus Tech Tips forums!

so your thinking the 4790k is a CPU bottleneck for your gaming?

what resolution and GPU is used?

what monitor?

what titles are you have issues with?

It's not bottlenecking too bad but it's having trouble hitting near 165hz with newer games like BO4 and it's having trouble smoothly running some newer emulators. I run 1440p@160hz and have an RTX 2080.
