How to reinstall Windows on a laptop with a new SSD

darth_626

Hi All :D

I have been given an old laptop that my work no longer needs as they have done a laptop refresh and I would like to replace the 2.5" HDD with an SSD.

My dilemma is that I would like to avoid purchasing another windows 10 key.

Therefore is it possible to use the Laptop manufacturers OEM key (found on the HP laptop) when I reinstall or will I need to buy another key?

Thank you very much for your time :D

You should be able to skip entering a key during Windows 10 installation and it should recognize your key from your hardware.

Laptop | 2018 MBA 256/16GB | MX Master

Windows don't even ask for key, but automatically reads it from BIOS. So don't worry. Of course only when windows 10 was preinstalled by manufacturer.

What @zlolslavez said. The windows key will also work if you are doing a fresh install.
