PC turned off, Wont turn on anymore.

Yukki

Hello,
So, yesterday, I was just playing some GTA with my friends, when suddenly my PC turned off and refused to turn on since. No sign of life when I try to turn it on, no fans spinning, just motherboard lights up for like a microsecond.

Video: https://youtu.be/mjNYV4fIcks

When I unplug the GPU (Radeon RX 580), I get a sign of life, fans start spinning, lights are working. But I can't do much, since I have a Ryzen 2600 along with it, which does not have an iGPU.

I tried putting my brother's GPU (GTX 1050 Ti) into my system, and it booted up without an issue, but when I put my 580 back, the same thing like on the video happened. Just motherboard lighting up for a moment.

Did I just fry my GPU? Or could there be any other issue? I am really desperate, as I was working on a Family Christmas Video, and I can't even finish it now, because of this.

It also might be something with the PSU? Since my GPU has an 8 pin, but my brother's just runs off mobo power.

I would appreciate any kind of help, thank yoy everyone.

Sounds like either your GPU is dead, or cables supplying power to the GPU is dead.

Best way to test would be to put your RX 580 in your brothers system and see if it boots. If it doesn't, your GPU is bad, if it does, your PSU is bad. In the case of a bad PSU, I guess your brother gets a GPU upgrade until you get a new PSU in (since your PSU seems to be working fine other than GPU power lost)

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the reply.

So I did put the GPU into my brothers PC. What happened was spark, smoke and a horrible smell. Guess it's dead for good. I mean, I am no expert, but I don't think this should happen on a 4 months old GPU. Never did any overclocking, or cryptomining. I should be abled to RMA it, right?

Yeah RMA is always a good idea, hopefully you've got a 1 year warranty
