I have been using my same PC for over 7 years and it has kicked some ass.   It is a I7 4470k slight overclock good air cooling 16gb gtx 760 some expensive old ASUS motherboard DVD burner SSD and 2 HDD dynamat and silicon seamed case.  So started getting some power supply warnings and the fan starts and stops, thing is toast.  So I am going to refresh the system by adding a new graphics card and power supply.   Was thinking a factory overclocked GTX 1060 or something similar.  I HATE RGB!!!!!!!!! I want my system to be as unseen and unheard as possible.  I do not mind paying for quality but do not like overpaying.

Is a EVGA SuperNOVA 850 proper choice last time I went with a Roswell 1000w that is now failing.  Thoughts other options.

Evga will treat you well. Recommended gold or higher, and a 1060 is the right balance for your 4470. I used to run a gtx 1060 6gb with a 3820 and 16gb ram

EVGA has a whole lot of crappy PSUs, including 80+ Gold rated ones.

4470 isn't a thing, likely a 4770K and a typo.

Why do you need such overkill PSU? EVGA G3/G2 550W will be enough.

Main system: Ryzen 7 7800X3D / Asus TUF Gaming B650-Plus / G.Skill Trident Z5 NEO 32GB 6000Mhz / Zotac RTX 5090 SOLID OC/ x2 WD_BLACK NS770 2TBs/ Corsair HX1000i/ NZXT H5 Flow

That is a dangerous thing to say in this neighborhood.

The PSU calculator said I needed 672 watts and it is overclocked.

i'd personally go anywhere between 850-1000, but i tend to be more conservative than some. All in all, please check out the tier list below

Insanity is not the absence of sanity, but the willingness to ignore it for a purpose. Chaos is the result of this choice. I relish in both.

Is not equivalent to saying that all of EVGA's PSUs are crap?

Ignore it. You'll use less than a third of that with a 1060.

What PSU calculator? Unless you're running an 295x2 or something, that's way off for your system.

850w? I'm guessing you're looking to power two 1060 based systems simultaneously? Or maybe three? Actually, I bet that thing could power four, no problem.

Just go with a quality 500-550w unit my dude. Seasonic Focus/Prime or EVGA G3(made by Super Flower).

Ryzen 5 2600 3.9Ghz all cores 1.175V | MSI X470 Gaming Pro | 16GB ADATA Gammix D10 @ 3000C16 | Sapphire RX 5700 XT Pulse | Samsung 970 EVO Plus 250GB & 2x Samsung 860 EVO 500GB | Super Flower Leadex II 650W | Phanteks P350X

For reference a 760 SLI setup with a 3960X didn't pull more than 500 watts under full load

Lurick that is a pretty PC you have.  Learning about PSU in deph is rabbit hole.  Right put it into a Killawat says it is pulling 327 no real load on it.  I am going to go for the overkill live forever PSU with a 10 year warranty.

I used the New Egg one it may be because of the burner and 3 storage devices may be a max if all is used

yeah, those things always overcalculate by way too much. you can go with 450 and still be fine. what is your budget and location for it?

btw, you might want to quote people so they get a notification

So what harm dose it do if you just go with a bigger powersupply than you need.  Besides price.

none, you'd be just paying more for something your pc won't use

a 550 G2 would be enough

ASUS X470-PRO • R7 1700 4GHz • Corsair H110i GT P/P • 2x MSI RX 480 8G • Corsair DP 2x8 @3466 • EVGA 750 G2 • Corsair 730T • Crucial MX500 250GB • WD 4TB

What? There's no way that a 4770k and GTX 760 is drawing 327W at idle.

Do not buy the EVGA G3 if you want it to be quiet. The G3 is very loud.

Grab a good quality, quiet PSU instead:

  • Corsair RM550x
  • Be Quiet Straight Power 11 550W
  • Bitfenix Whisper M 450W/550W

The RM550x comes with a 10 year warranty, so since you mentioned you wanted something with a 10 year warranty then that would fit your requirements, however the Straight Power (5 year warranty) and Whisper (7 year warranty) are also good quality units that are very quiet and worth considering.

CPU: Intel i7 6700k  | Motherboard: Gigabyte Z170x Gaming 5 | RAM: 2x16GB 3000MHz Corsair Vengeance LPX | GPU: Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080ti | PSU: Corsair RM750x (2018) | Case: BeQuiet SilentBase 800 | Cooler: Arctic Freezer 34 eSports | SSD: Samsung 970 Evo 500GB + Samsung 840 500GB + Crucial MX500 2TB | Monitor: Acer Predator XB271HU + Samsung BX2450
