Windows 10 on a SSD in laptop?

Ankit8879

I bought a new laptop which does not have a SSD. Am planning to install a new SSD in there in which I want to install windows 10. How do I do that without loosing the licensed windows?

the key will be tied to the motherboard, not the Hard drive. just install windows in the SDD using the media creation tool and it will pick up the previous key.

It will activate itself after you reinstall windows.

If you want to be extra safe you can do this:聽https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/20530/windows-10-reactivating-after-hardware-change

It's not necessary though.

Your Windows 10 product key is stored in your laptop UEFI (BIOS).

When you'll install Windows 10 (which you can get from Microsoft website: https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/software-download/windows10), Windows 10 will detect your poruct key stored in the UEFI (BIOS) and once online, it will activate itself.
