Gpu fan at 100%, Two short beeps one long one and no display

When I turn on my pc there is no display with two short beeps and one long one and the GPU fan at 100%. I used a different video card and the pc showed a display so it's not the motherboard's fault, I switched the video card again to a gtx 560 which requires the same 2 six pins and everything worked fine so it's not the PSU fault.

I tried taking out the cmos for 10min and putting it back in and that didn't change anything. So is something wrong with the gtx 670?

ms-7613 ver 1.1 motherboard
8gb ddr3 ram
Windows 7 64bit

Weird thing, This pc was an Oem and it had originally 4gb of ram. I upgraded it two another 4gb. When I took out the 4gb of ram i put in the pc and left the original 4gb the pc stopped beeping but there still was no display and the fans were still at 100%

Welcome to the forums!

 

That sounds like a dead GPU to me. That 670 is pretty old so these things happen. And although the PSU is not dead it could have caused the GPU to fail in some manner, the TR2 is probably one of the worst PSU's out there, voltage ripple alone can kill components in your system, even if the PSU itself does not fail. But that said with old parts a capacitor could have failed. Also, the thermal paste on the GPU is so old that it probably is dried up dust at this point, if the fans were always spinning at 100% it could be because the card was overheating, if that happens for too long it can cause the GPU chip to fail after prolonged use at high temps.

I changed the Thermal paste on the gpu so I don't think its overheating. I'll try putting the gtx 670 in my main system which has a better power supply. Even if that doesn't fix it I think it's a good idea to get a new Power supply anyway for my system.

But anyways you were at least pro-active enough to replace the thermal paste which is good, so unlikely it overheated and killed the chip. But that still makes me think a capacitor blew, did you see any smoke at any point? If that TR2 killed your GPU then putting it in another system with a better PSU won't make a difference, the damage would be done already. And yeah I highly recommend replacing the PSU if you intend on keeping the system.

There was no smoke and I didn't see any blown capacitor when I opened up the GPU to replace the thermal paste. I tried before my gtx 560 in the same system with the same power supply and everything worked fine, the fans weren't spinning at 100% the display and no beeps. So why didn't it kill my gtx 560 too?

So to be clear you replaced the thermal paste after the issues started?

 

Voltage ripple happens under loads, and with a cheap power supply, it isn't like a guaranteed occurrence everytime you plug in a different GPU. Just because your GTX 560 worked means nothing other than it isn't your motherboard, CPU, RAM etc that is the issue.

Voltage ripple happens under loads, and with a cheap power supply, it isn't like a guaranteed occurrence everytime you plug in a different GPU. Just because your GTX 560 worked means nothing other than it isn't your motherboard, CPU, RAM etc that is the issue. 

No, I didn't test it before I opened the card up and applied new thermal paste, I bought this used gtx 670 from gumtree (A buying and selling place in Australia) that said it works.

You should have started off with that.... if you received a GPU and it has never worked then it probably was broken, to begin with, contact the seller, and if there is buyers protection get your money back.

I Messaged him but he's not responding. I just put the graphics card in my system and it did the same thing, I have Intel Hd graphics so I was able to get a display with the card in. I noticed that the system wasn't picking up the graphics card too. I looked at some other forum posts and they all have the same symptoms and most of at the end are saying a dead card ;/

Might as well, maybe I will notice something. Next time try the card before taking it apart, although I am willing to bet that the card was dead when shipped to you.

That is most likely your problem. Unfortunately, you are probably going to take a loss as you can't prove that it worked before taking it apart and it is now impossible to tell whether or not it ever worked.

Yup! But unless you have the soldering kit already or can borrow it then it may not be worth it. Also If you try and fix it I would just replace the cap altogether.
