i5-8600k or i5-9600k?

KichLing

So I'm pretty torn which CPU to get, since they are practically the same price where I live. I'm planning on delidding if I get the 8600k, so would that make it a better choice for me, since 9600k is soldered?

Are there any real advantages to 9th gen or should I just get the 8600k and use the improved headroom to OC higher? I really don't know what do here..

You can OC her more then the 9900k possibly.  We will OC you to 4.6Ghz and take it from there.  There is huge drastic improvement in pro apps,,, not games tho.

the 9600k and 8600k right now have like a 30 cent difference. The 9600k is way better, especially when they're the same price.

Allright now I'm actually tilting towards the i7-9700k.. I guess I should get the 8 cores when I can afford it :D man this is hard

It's all your choice. No hyper-threading on the 9700k, but its a solid CPU, a little better than the 8700k, its a beefy 9600k+2 cores. I picked it out for my build.

I only went with 9600k because all the 8+ core CPUs were sold out or drastically overpriced when I bought the parts for my PC.

I remember hearing somewhere that high end game developers are developing games optimized for 8 cores/threads so it is kind of a shame I went with a 6 core non-hyperthreaded CPU, but I assume I'll upgrade to a 9900k in a couple years anyways so the i5 9600k was just to me something good to use in the meanwhile.

8700k or 9700k for the extra threads. I have a 8600k now. Great for gaming but has limitations to do anything else that takes cpu resources. Get the extra threads, you will thank yourself down the road.

Between an i5 8600K and an i5 9600K I'd take an i7 8700K.

lol seriously though since the ONLY difference between the 8600K and 9600K is the soldered IHS and this changes about nothing in how likely you are to get 5ghz, get whichever you want but consider the i7 8700K because hyper-threading and more cache helps.

I pulled the trigger on 9700k at 420€, which is pretty good price here in Finland considering the cpu shortage. Thanks for the replies everyone.
