New storage solution, not sure about HDD

Long story short, I've turned my old PC into a "console killer" Xbox replacement. Currently, it has an old Hitachi 2.5" 5400rpm 600GB HDD pulled from a laptop with a dead screen. This drive is among the slowest drives I've ever seen (not to mention my main PC and my laptop both have SSD boot drives). 
I'm planning on getting a WD Blue 1TB SATA SSD, which is a ~400GB upgrade in storage capacity and significant speed boost. 

Then I'm also wondering if I should get an HDD (probably no larger than 1TB, because it's not my main PC). I've been asking around on Discord and people just keep telling me to get a 120GB NVMe SSD and a 4TB HDD, which seems extremely overkill to me. Not to mention, this PC is a Haswell based build and does not have an M.2 slot; while I could use my spare M.2 expansion card, I wouldn't be able to get more than PCIe 2.0 x2 speeds out of the drive (I used to run my 970 EVO on this board, before I upgraded). My thoughts now are that a 1TB SSD would be plenty, but I wonder if having the HDD would be good/useful/necessary in the future.

Getting a 1TB SSD is more than enough, but you can get a 120GB SSD and a 2TB HDD to hold everything you need, if everything fits on your 600GB drive this will be more than enough.

That's what I'm thinking. RIght now I'm using only around 100-ish GB, and don't plan on installing too many other games. And if nothing else, I have this 600GB drive for a little boost later on.

Don't waste your money if you don't have to, I've never used more than 1TB and if you're only going to put games 1TB is enough.

Yea, 1TB SSD plus a free HDD is hard to beat. May get a DVD drive, since I can fit one in the case; and will probably get a wifi/bluetooth adapter for more convenient placement and wireless controller support.

 

Edit: For the lols, I wonder what installing steam games to a DVD would do/be like *think emoji*

Reusing the drive you have as a game or be should be fine, I grabbed a notebook 5400rpm drive for a friend of mine and she likes it plenty on top of her 120GB SSD.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B
