new gpu

hollyh88

As my title says.. i am looking to buy a new gpu. but I don't know which one of the following to pick to gain the best fps increase. the 3 choices that i am thinking of are these:

gtx 1070 ti
gtx 1080
rtx 2070 sc

my current setup is as follows:

2k 60hz screen (2560x1440)
i5 7600 (non k)
EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC GAMING ACX 3.0
16gb ddr4 memory
h110m-s2h motherboard
Cooler Master GM G550M

i do however have a few things i want to say first:
no i am not looking to upgrade my cpu or power supply. currently only a gpu.

i love the evga brand coolers. so i preffer evga over others but i have an open mind if you have a valid opinion for another one.

so yes i am looking for which gpu has a higher fps increase and overclock possibility that goes together with my power supply and CPU.

I would love to hear input and opinion in which one i should pic. or another one than i mentioned above. I have looked all over youtube and google but have yet to find good videos or articles. most review videos use k versions of cpu's and the outcome of fps will then ofc be different then mine.

these are the games that i play and looking to play when they come out:

currently:
fallout 4 (heavily modded)
skyrim se (heavily modded)
dying light
battlefield 1 (perhaps battlefield v if they improve it)

upcoming:
the outer worlds
dying light 2
metro exodus
borderlands 3
rage 2 (maybe)

so i am curious to see you guys input! but please be kind. :)

ps.
i am a ict student so i know allot (not everything ofc) about the hardware and software of pc's.

yes @hollyh88  need to be more specific,

Gpu recommendations rely heavily on intended use and if 1440P is what you game at a 1070 ti is plenty

also do you play with V-sync on?

I didn't mean to sound fancy. i just thought 2k meant a basic 2560x1440 :)

i intend to game the crap out of its durability :D

i only play with vsync in games that other wise get broken without it. like skyrim se.

that is what some people assume,   but  not all people are the same.

1440p is a more succinct term.

it heavily depends i am currently testing both fps in fallout 4 without mods with overclock (90 on the clock and 400 on the memory) and non overclock.

in non overclock inside the city i am getting around 40/60 with everything set to max besides the weapon debris. i have that set to off. and around 50/70 with overclock and the same settings as non overclock

and outside the city i get around 90/110 fps non overclock.

and with overclock around 120/130

if you like max everything settings you could benefit from the stronger gpu's  if you dont want to dip too low

the newer hardware tries to take some of the load off the CPU computing

Because you currently already have a gtx 1070 i wouldn't consider any of those a real upgrade. You only get about 20% more fps with those. If your current gpu really isn't enough for games right now, then those will also be on a borderline. get a gtx1080ti or an rtx 2080.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

yes i like setting everything to max to get the best looking games for my monitor. even if it does cost me some fps. thats why i want to increase it. and take some load of my cpu. but thats why i am in a bit of a pickle with the 3 that i named. since the gtx 1070 ti can be overclocked greatly but an rtx 2070 too even though its less overclock able its performing better but its a poor fps per value thing.

only issue is that if i want to upgrade to a gtx 1080 ti and rtx 2080 i would need to upgrade the powersupply as well. but those 2 are for now too much money for me.

Nah, the rtx2080ti is 1000€, the rtx 2080 should be 700-800.

For the 1080ti look around used.

Getting a 1070ti/1080/rtx 2070 sadly just doesn't make any sense for your situation, you are paying 500-600€ for only 20% performance increase? For reference, that is going from 40fps to 48fps. Just not enough to justify the "upgrade". Just save up or look for a used 1080ti, because you are going to get pretty annoyed at the performance jump otherwise.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

i have run 3 psu for a single system, before  i got a 1600W   (my 12v load is redic)...  (spares are helpful sometimes)

plus you should aim for 80% or less 'load on your PSU'

it wasn't pretty, but i had 2 jumped (one that ran fan controller+fans/pumps)  (i could leave pumps on all the time)

2nd was linked in to turn on with the main psu (supplementary gpu PCIE power)

if i didnt have the PSU's around (i likely wouldnt have bought them to do it)

but if you have a spare you can get the gpu first and upgrade your psu later

yes but that comes down to which i should go for. i do know that i can save up but thats not possible currently. i posted the prices above.  if i go and buy one of those i will ofc sell my current gpu. which i ofc treated carefully :) so if i can get around 300/350 for that one ill be happy. seeing how a new one costs 500 now. which is funny because i got it for like 420 1.5 year ago :D

then choose the most future proofed option.   (air and water cooling aside)

if you dont plan to upgrade again any time soon, then get a 2070 that way you can benefit from future upgrade/tweaks to the new tech.

if you want to have a real upgrade in the next year or two then get the cheapest option and save all your spare funds..

gpu more or less = more money= better frames...  if you are happy with your frames then dont upgrade.. but at a certain point all the options are diminishing returns and relies on how badly you want the resulting performance
