I am not into you know parts of the computer, but one of my friends "dont know if he right but". He said that if you have for example 500gb SSD and you have 50gb of games on it. If you reinstall your windows before deleting these 50gb of games you will lose 50gb of the SSD and it will become 450gb is that true ? I am asking because now i have ssd and i want to know more about this.                                                                                                  p.s sorry if i angry someone cuz of my lacking knowledge.

I'm going to go on a limb here and assume your friend is an idiot. No, it doesn't work like that.

I'm classifying you as inexperienced; you knew that you don't really know these things and instead of just believing everything you were told, you went online and asked. That doesn't make you an idiot, asking when you don't know is always a good thing.

It is just like a harddrive. If you format the drive then all the cells get marked as empty and you get your full capacity back. Also it is always a first time for something, so no worries.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

The SSD has to erase each old file/folder/data as it goes. So you are partially right. Basically you remembered an car has 2 wheels, and forgot the other 2, so your car falls over. XD

The SSD will take some time to delete that 50GB *properly* when you start installing/using the new windows. This will slow it down a little on good drives, or a lot on cheap/rubbish drives.

A HDD does not need to "erase" data as it can write over it (it is magnetic, so it just magnatises the disk again). An SSD uses a process that has to write, erase, write again. So whenever you "delete" something, it has to spend time clearing out it's chip memory. Most drives do this when you are not using the computer, but leave it on (so watching Youtube or doing homework). But if you used the computer all the time, it would have to slow down and erase deleted stuff while you are using it.

Very nice one! :)

My Samsung 250 drives and 1TB drive performs really well. You should never notice Garbage Collection/TRIM/erasure as a home user, because they work so fast. Even when Linus/TomsHardware checks them, they get like around 30% slower when really pushed to the limit. So game installs and everyday use should run at 100% speed. ?

Instal the Samsung Magician for it, and it will tell you how well the drive is performing. You don't need to change anything. But can use the "performance optimisation" which I think just does the TRIM/file balancing when you click it, instead of it waiting until the PC is not being used.
