Dedicated physx card with a r9 290?

Arndroid

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a dedicated physx card to run next to a r9 290, without bottlenecking anything.

I was thinking of an 650 ti 2gb card?

Also, will a direct cu II edition of the r9 290 will be released anytime soon?

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,

Arndroid

I don't think you can do that because the drivers will clash and just not work. I've heard there are ways to do it with hacked drivers but that's not really stable. Honestly, PhysX isn't that great anyway.

I did mess around with the hacked PhysX driver when I had a HD3870 X2 + 9600GT combo, it worked but I wasn't too impress with PhysX so I gave it up after selling off those cards. I can now do PhysX simply because I have a rig with 2x GTX670, but let me be clear on this, the GTX670's weren't for PhysX (I don't give a crap about it), they were more for S3D gaming, NVidia's better at S3D than AMD, I'd give 'em that.

You can do it, but you have to use a VERY VERY old AMD driver, hybridised,.... losing all optimizations of newer drivers. At least that used to be the case.

Some PhysX games also CHECK the dll files and disable PhysX on ya, and hybrid PhysX/AMD users have found the hybrid solution does not work for certain games (Hawken)

Not worth it if your not green team.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

My advice is, forget PhysX, it adds some enhanced gfx effects for certain PhysX heavy titles....like Batman AO, Mirror's Edge and a few others. Most other titles that use PhysX use CPU software PhysX, and you don't need an NVidia card for that.anyway,

just buy 290x from the remaining money or something

or if you really want physics in games, just buy 780 or 780ti

If you really want PhysX, get a 780.

The Asus variant is said to come out at the end of the month. Other options are available though.

Bought a 780 and yet to see PhysX make much of a difference in games. Like ever. Had AMD last gen and simply ran it off my CPU when I really wanted it. Considering turning it off anyway just to get higher framerates (or changing it out for higher AA).

When you say "next to a R9 290" do you mean in the same rig but not crossfire or SLi, ?

I wouldn't recommend putting an AMD and Nvidia graphics cards onto the same m/board the drivers will most likely crash your system.

If you mean in another rig / chassis and are asking for advice for a good nvidia card that has good PhysX and simular performance to a R9 290, then look at the 780, or even a high end 770 might do the trick, or a Asus Mars.

got to love Asus components

Hmm, I see that there is a lot of negative feedback on this.

Well then, thank guys! I'll just skip doing that and run physx off my CPU. (When possible.)

I will still wait for the DCU II 290 though, heh. :)

I can count with both hands how many games run PhysX, and still have fingers unused.
