How does online content syndication works?

I was told that The next web wants to syndicate one of my articles on medium.

But I don't know anything about "content syndication"... 

Are they gonna pay me ?? or do I just give them for free? 

 

What kind of benefits can I get from it?

Usually, syndication means that'll post your article onto their platform. Think of mediums like Reuters and AP. They pretty much live off of syndication.

 

Whether or not they'll pay you depends on the agreement you reach.

In cases like yours they will probably not pay you, instead "paying" you in exposure.
