MacBook Pro 13 vs 15 (2018 model)

RRGT19

Hi,

I want a Mac to develop iOS APPs but, I don't know which size to get.

I had a Dell XPS 15 and I was very confortable with the size and the screen real state, I didn't need a monitor for my daily work.

The Macbook pro has more resolution and I have noticed that the content showed on both, the difference, is minimal, at least with a website opened, the difference is not big.

I never had a 13" laptop so, I don't know much.

I will use Xcode and Webstorm for developing Apps. I'm used to have at least 2 things opened side by side, one window watching an online course and the other window the IDE (editor, program to develop Apps).

For my work I don't need a GPU, so, the GPU is not the determine factor.

This is gonna be my first Mac in my life.

Any advice?

Don't get the mac, unless you need MacOS software, then get the cheapest 13 inch with the i7-8559U (the one with intel iris plus 655)

I need a Mac to create iOS Apps. I will buy an used Mac because if I buy it brand new, the cost is big and I can't afford it.

Right now on ebay, I can find a 15" model cheaper than a new or refurbished 13" from apple's website. The thing is, for a developer, 13 o 15.

I would go for the Retina model rather than the current Donglebook Pro. 15 would probably be a good choice for a developer for that 16GB of RAM. I have do say those 15 inch Retinas look pretty nice.

13" model also comes with 16gb, even with an i7 these days. Both are retina.

I probably just never seen one then. I don't follow Mac that close for obvious reasons. I'm a trackpoint kind of guy.

It's good to give advice when you have no idea what you're even giving advice on.

Reading is hard I guess.

@RodoGodo19 It really just comes down to personal preference -- if you would rather have the bigger screen and more space, then the 15"; alternatively, if you'd rather something a bit smaller, then the 13". Personally, I've use both a 13" and 15" laptop daily and much prefer the extra screen space. But not everyone shares that same opinion.

Hey, if I seriously had no clue what I was talking about, I would've told him to get a ThinkPad instead of a Retina.

'Retina' Mac applies to the 13" and 15" MBP -- both in its current form (usb-c) and its previous form. It also applies to the 5k iMac, 4k iMac, Macbook (non-pro), and Macbook Air. Colloquially it has been used to reference the MBP due to being the first Mac with a retina display after the traditional unibody MBP, but still doesn't distinguish between the current or previous iteration.

And not knowing that the 13" has a 16gb config is pretty demonstrative of your complete lack of knowledge on the subject. Given that the only Mac that didn't support 16gb of RAM (since 2012~) was the old Air -- that was only recently phased out).

Regardless, you yourself admitted to not knowing what you're talking about. That's a great reason to not give someone else advice -- someone (generic someone) who likely doesn't know enough to know that the advice is either flat out wrong or bad.
