M.2 Hard Drive Question

I have a ROG Crosshair VII AM4+ board running a 2700x.

 

Currently im using a Samsung Evo 970 in the bottom M.2 Port which on this board goes directly to the CPU if im correct.

 

What i wanna know is if i put a second M.2 in the PC would i be able to run it as a seperate drive and not in a Raid form and would it slow my current M.2 as the second would use the chipset instead.

You'll be able to use an M.2 PCIE/NVME SSD in the second slot, which will run as it own independent SSD (I don't believe NVME RAID is supported on AM4, I thought only TR4.. I could be wrong).

Furthermore it might run slower because chipset lanes, but you wont see the difference in day to day usage. More in tests or heavy scenarios like loading a lot of video material from it.

For regular usage, you don't need raid, raid will only makes your life complicated.

Set it to AHCI mode not raid.

My SATA SSD RAID0 works really fine, i did not have any issues so far...
