Confused about M.2 and SATA / Build Opinions

Hi!,

Here is the short question; On the GIGABYTE Z390 AORUS PRO WiFi, it has 6 SATA ports and 2 M.2 connectors.  But they share the same lanes?  See below (from the mobo instruction manual).  So does this mean, if I use M2A and a Samsung 970 EVO I will still have 6 SATA ports AND the M.2 port because it is PCIe ?  But if it was SATA I would loose one, and if I used M2M I would loose 2 regardless?  That's what it looks like, but PC part picker said it would take one lane regardless so I'm confused.

Long question; What do you think of my build below?  If it looks strange its because I already have the keyboard, mouse, monitor, case fans, Cpu cooler, optical drive, 1 GPU, HDD, and ssd's(not the m.2) from my current/old computer.   That's why I am using Samsung 840 series SSD's.  Also do you think 860W would be enough for this build (temporary)?  A 60mm SLI bridge is the correct size right?

That’s a lot of questions in one thread. Your CPU cooler will likely be good enough for only mild overclocks - if that. Your 800W PSU should be fine if nothing is OCed. If you overclock the CPU and both GPUs you might run into power issues though.

To answer your first question: if you use the M2M slot, your SATA 4 and 5 ports will be disabled (with that M.2 drive). If you use M2A, none will be disabled (that’s what the Xs and checks mean...)

If you use M2A with M2 SATA, you disable SATA3_1 and if you use M2M with M2 SATA or M2 NVMe, you disable SATA3_4 and SATA3_5.

What I do not understand is how on a motherboard with a chipset that has 24 PCI Express 3.0 lines, this has to happen.

My question is does this happen on all Z390 motherboards?

I don't plan on overclocking so it should be fine right?  Or should I just go ahead and get a better one before I even start the build?  I was looking at the NZXT Kraken X62 but it's a bit expensive.  Do you have a better suggestion?

No point in buying something you might not need. You might as well try the cooler you have, and if you need another, then you can get one
