PowerColor R9 390X thermal paste removal

Hello LTT community,

 

I've recently bought the CoolerMaster Master Gel Maker to replace my thermal compound on my GPU. I cleaned the whole chip off with some 99.% Aceton and everything looked clean except stuff that was next to the chip.

As seen on the pic. Whats the best way to remove thermal paste that's next to the chip. Does it harm the GPU if I don't remove it?

the picture doesnt show any paste removed?

 

but anyway, it's fine if you leave old paste around the GPU die. Only the die itself needs that cooling and paste.

SuperPi (v1.5 from Techpowerup, PI value output) 16K: 0.100s 1M: 8.255s 32M: 7m 45.93s
