How do you custom make profile pics for YouTube and other?

I want to be able to do it pixel by pixel. Is there any way to do this?

inkscape is a very nice vector graphics software that is very handy if you get the hang of it

if you want bitmap work, meaning pixel by pixel get photoshop. If you want vector work, get illustrator.

yeah, its free. it has some quirks and yeah it is rather complicated but once you learn it, you can do some pretty cool stuff with it.
