Advice on a couple of things

One of my colleague asked to build a pc for him. For CPU I choose Ryzen R5 1600.

 

1) For MBO I am thinking between these:

Asrock b350 pro 4 (ATX version, I read that microatx version has some problems with freezing lately, atx should be free of that) - 84€, Asus B350 strix and MSI B350 carbon - both around 120€. I am leaning towards carbon because it has best VRM of b350 (leave a possibility to upgrade in future for 8c ryzen) and better audio.

 

2) For Ram I think that 1x8gb 2666mhz will be enough? I have heard that only one stick of RAM can be crippling on Ryzen. True?

 

3) R5 1600 comes with a good stock cooler? I will OC it to max 3.6.

 

4) Advice on some 24" and 27" freesync monitor that is not TN. Something decent and good.

 

5) For GPU: RX 560 (161€) or 1050Ti (200€)? How much is RX 560 faster that 7770? I have 7770.

 

6) SSD: WD green Sata or M.2 - 120GB-240GB is good and stable?

What is he using it for? Gaming?

Will he pay for all of that?

 

1. I prefer the Carbon as well, though the Krait has the same VRM design.

 

2. Do get 2 sticks of memory for dual channel.

 

3. Yes, some can do 4Ghz with that.

 

5. RX 560 is a LOT faster than HD 7770. Like, about 80% performance increase. Not all that fast for modern AAA games though, pretty much low settings all the way.

 

6. WD Green is one of the slowest SATA SSDs because it doesnt have any cache, same for Kingston A400. I'd rather spend (a bit) more for Samsung 850 evo or Crucial MX300 (I know 860 evo and MX500 are both out, but they aren't as good value since they still carry the price premium for being new)

Yes.

 

1. Probably change of plan, Carbon is unavailable in my country, I can order it from another country but I think that colleague won`t like that. Also budget is on the limit. I think he will buy Asrock B350 pro 4, seems like a stable mbo. Will it eventually hold 8c ryzen in future without any big problems?

 

2. Probably this one: Patriot V Elite DDR4, 2666Mhz, (2x 4GB),8GB, CL16

 

3. Since 1050Ti is faster some25% I think it is the better option. Some medium settings in AAA games.

 

6. Is WD green faster than Kingston HyperX Fury (I have that, satisfied 100%)? To fit the budget he will buy 1 ssd 120gb and 1TB WD blue (10ezex). I can`t find any MX300 of 120gb. Strange

1. You will need the carbon, krait, or b350-f for Ryzen 7. That said, 8 cores arent noticeably faster than 6 cores unless he does streaming at the same time. I wouldnt go as far as Ryzen 7. B350 pro 4 is good for a Ryzen 5 1600, though Ryzen 2000 series will come next month so wait if possible.

 

6. Kingston one is some 30% faster. Actually WD's phasing out the older 2016 Green with a 2018 Green, but that seems to perform even worse. If you are going for cheaper SSDs, then Adata SU800, SP600, PNY CS900, Crucial BX100 and BX300 are also decent choices.

For SSD 120GB in budget range I have this options:

 

 

- SSD 120GB TeamGroup L7 EVO

 

- SSD 120GB Kingston UV400

-SSD Transcend 128GB SATA SSD230S 3D Nand

- Silicon Power 2.5" S55 120GB SSD SATA3 TLC

- SSD AD 128GB SU800 SATA 3D Nand

 

Which of these should closer in speed to my kingston fury SSD and that it has cache?

 

Also is Fortron Raider II 650W a good reliable PSU?

 

Other options for PSU in that price range:

- 700W FSP Fortron/Source Hyper
- 600W FSP Fortron/Source Hyper M
- Fortron 700W, Hydro
- Fortron Hyper M85+ 650W

Since budget was on the thin edge my friend ordered Gigabyte AB350M-Gaming 3 (heard many good things about her), not Asus b350 prime plus. Later I saw that this board has ALC887 audio codec. Is there a big difference between ALC887 and old standard ALC892?
