LGA 2011 motherboards are so freaking expensive

So over the winter break computer died to an outage. I thought that it might have just been the PSU but I just tried my buddies PSU and it still doesnt work. So now I think it is the motherboard. I went to see about buying a new one thinking that they would be super cheap since no one would be needing one. When I looked for the same motherboard I have they are listed at like $399 to $500!!! Why is it soooo expensive to buy 7 year old motherboards? I have also included a video of what happens when I try to turn on my computer.

Where are you looking? I see them from $90 to $130 but yes some are $200+ But those are the fancey ones so it’s to be expected

I am just searching lga 2011 socket motherboards. I went looking for the same board I have since I already know it and I know everything fits. I was just hoping to get some for like $20 since it is 7 year old hardware.

This is exactly why it's expensive. Most mobos are still in used in old computers, have already died, or have already been recycled. This means with the scarcity they can charge more money.

 

If you had a mobo 1-2 years old that would be when it's the cheapest (think skylake Motherboards) since there's just so much and barely any market.

I’ve noticed With tech prices tend to go up over a long period of time unless the item was a flop no one no one needs or uses. look on eBay maybe

Dang. Yeah that does make sense. Well now I have a massive paper weight in my dorm. And I just bought some new games over christmas break :,(

Dont search lga 2011, search for X79 instead.

I looked and it is still crazy prices. I guess I will just have to wait for some money to buy a new computer after the computer I am already in the process of gathering parts when they are on sale.

Oh, and one more thing. Motherboards break wayyy before CPUs do, so that drives up demand too.

Well I will just need to save up so I can buy a new pc. Which I am already doing but prices are insane though, luckily I already have my gpu.

Because at 1-2 years old, the CPUs are still expensive. The motherboards start to become expensive because the CPUs are really cheap.

Socket 2011 will include both X99 and X79 motherboards, while a 7 year old system can only use X79 (more like 6 years old actually)

Forget about the recycled part for x79 boards; with the first wave of e5 2670s from facebook hitting the market, the price has gone up and, given the higher supply of xeons, stayed right there. Same happened with x58 - you can't find decent boards for under ~150 for that socket.
