Drive has no letter and option to format is grayed out

Delete the volume (the only option other than "Help" available) then create a new simple volume. Should be good to go after that.

A friend gave me an old drive of his because I was running low on space but I can't format it. I've installed drives before with no issue. I've attached a screenshot with a few different windows that hopefully have enough info so that you guys can help me because I'm lost and google doesn't seem to be helping.
