It would work but the GPU would bottleneck the CPU. A 1060 6gb would much better suited.

It would be alright for 1080p gaming at high-max settings and good for 4K max settings for older less demanding titles like Need for Speed:Most Wanted.For newer demanding games it'd be 4K-low to med. settings.I'd rather get a 1060 instead

It would work fine but you'd be better for with a more capable GPU, something like a 1060 6GB or even a 1070.

Even at low to med settings, you're not playing 4k on a 1050ti lol.

You can.... RGinHD did a video of 4K gaming on a RX 460... even slower than the 1050 ti and did pretty ok and playable (around 30 fps) for what he paid.

Too much CPU for too little GPU in my humble opinion, that is... considering you don't have CPU intensive software you have to run along but for gaming even the dirty cheap Pentium G4560 can drive a GTX 1050ti the i5 8600k is GTX 1070(980ti) or higher better suited.

In particularly case I have always bought the graphics card before the display, I actually had a Maxwell TITAN X paired with a 1680x1050p60hz 22 inch LCD panel

 

Later I upgraded to the 2560x1080p80hz with the same GPU, now I have just bought a GTX 1080ti and I'm still with the 2560x1080p80hz display but by December or January I plan on getting a good flat screen 4k for couch bed gaming.

lol im running a 1440x900 Dell 19 inch from 2007 monitor and don't plan to upgrade soon... look at my signature specs lol

It would heavily bottleneck the CPU, I have the same GPU and r5 1600, the reason I bought it was because I had the money but there were no stronger GPUs on the market, future proof-ability was the reason too but with coffee lake on the market I regret my decision because by the time all those cores get utilized r5 1600 will be probably worse than fx 8xxx today
