PG279Q detected as Generic PnP

138195_1454180536

System Info

Operating System: Windows 10 Home 64-bit

        Processor: AMD FX(tm)-8350 Eight-Core Processor

        Memory: 8192MB RAM

        DirectX Version: DirectX 12

Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB

Drive: Samsung SSD 750 EVO 250GB

        Motherboard: ASRock 970M PRO3

So, got the PG279Q in today. Hooked it up with the included displayport cable. It's getting recognized as a generic PnP. All graphics card drivers are up to dates and windows is up to date as well. I wrote all information from the included drivers and utilities CD to SSD, restarted and still nothing. Why is my monitor not being recognized?

All monitors are by default recognized as Generic PnP monitor. It doesn't really matter though.

If you really want Windows to display your actual monitor name then do this:
Right-click desktop

Display Settings

Graphics Adapter settings

Monitor tab

Properties

Driver tab

Update driver

Find driver in this PC

then navigate to where the driver is and select it (if it is on the CD then navigate it in there)

You can get Asus's driver to make the name appear correctly, but that literally changes nothing else afaik.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.
