OCing ryzen 1600

Hello I'm currently trying to OC my ryzen 1600. I'm using the stock cooler and I'm stable at 3.7ghz at 1.3v

Question is I'm using aida64 to stress the CPU. According to aida64 temps were 70-71c. I switch to hardware moniter and ryzen master and both said 78c.

Which do I believe? I am new to OCing and any advice would be great!

I don't own a Ryzen CPU myself but I think the temps report as -20°C lower than they should unless you use the AMD overclocking program. I'd recommend you give it a download if you don't already have it and I wouldn't go much higher on the voltage without a tower heatsink like the Hyper 212.

Ryzen Master should have the most accurate temps.

Afterburner comes real close

Aida and HWMonitor are within ~10C

The offset was hardcoded in to avoid that.

I thought it was to prevent damage to the CPU if it overheats. that way it throttles before it reaches danger zone but I could be wrong.

I am using ryzen master which is amds overclocking utility. Hwmoniter and ryzen master are the same temp. Unless I'm looking at it wrong. In hwmoniter I look at the package temp unless that's wrong.

Everything I have read and heard is that the Wraith spire and do a modest OC. I was wondering if my temps were ok, if I have any more headroom, and which program is the most accurate.

Only the 95W TDP CPU's (1600X, 1700X and 1800X) have the 20°C offset, most programs were updated to be aware of this within the first month of Ryzen's release.

Yes, it should be the package temp, that is the sensor on the CPU. The "CPU" temperature is typically the temperature sensor on the motherboard at the socket.

Ryzen master should be considered the reference measurement. The temperature sensors are not calibrated or certified, so no program can be considered accurate. You can set adjustments in AIDA64 to get its measurements to more closely align with the Ryzen master readings.

Thermal throttling starts at around 85°C with temperature shutdown occuring at 95°C. You shouldn't have any issues at or below 80°C.
