Used Business Laptop Reccomendations

Hey guys,

I'm looking for reccomendations for a used business laptop.

Keyword: Business.

Something along the lines of Dell's E series. Older used models are fine with me, my only must have is an Intel Core series processor in it, even if its a Gen1 chip.

I want a dedicated machine for linux to have at school, and business laptops are typically more durable, and used market is amazing cause its usually IT companies trying get rid of inventory they've previously leased to clients.

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: A small screen would be preferred too  actually, like 14in or smaller.

keep in mind used laptops from the core era will have dying or totally useless batteries. I'm talking between 5-20 minutes of usage.

whatever you buy make sure you can get a NEW battery for it , and not just a replacement thats been on a shelf for years on end and isn't much better.

Lenovo T430, X230 would be good but don't get Chinese replacement batteries

HP EliteBook 840 G1, 8470p or 2570p (full disclosure, I own a 2570p and it's quite a nice system, with a quad-core and 16GB DDR3 2133Mhz you can get close to the new MBP 15" with the Kaby Lake chips.

Dell E6440 or E6430 is good as well, but their 12.5" machines aren't really brilliant

idk

^ THISSSSS. you can get a quad core in the T430 too.

and the HP Elitebook 2570p is also solid, ask Droidbot about the older HP stuff.

@Droidbot yo did you know my Zbook15 has the same type of TB3 ports as the Macbook Pro. Just found out a few days ago. eGPU monster.

I'm not a huge TB3 fan as Intel own the standard, and that means it's costly and time-consuming getting anything certified

But heh, that's pretty cool

idk

  • 2 weeks later...

So I ended up getting a used Lenovo x230 for $150 off ebay, and put an extra $99 into it via a 256gb ssd and I absolutely love this thing! Perfect linux machine. I'm totally confident as a Comp Sci student that this will be more than enough for everything I need to do, from programming to wqord processing and presentations. Thanks for all the recommendations folks!
