Tv or projector?

DoubleWz

Hello, im looking to upgrade my home theater setup. Been looking at both TVs and projectors. The question is, should i get a 55" 4k TV or a 1080p projector? It would be used to watch movies and play consoles. Will 1080p look good on 80"+? Also how would a ps4 scale with a 4k display?

PS4 got "more or less" a "native" 4K support. It will look good.

The important question first: budget?

also: what's your viewing distance?

Your budget is too low for a good projector. I recommend a tv.

If you're not looking for HDR, there are some bargains out there.

Example:

Don't expect the most amazing picture, but you'd want a largish screen to make the most out of UHD resolution.

Projectors are a pain to maintain in home theater situations. You have to replace the lamp(s) every so often in order to keep the image bright(there are laser projectors now that don't have this limitation but they're outside of your price range). They often have to be placed where they are hard to get to when you have to change an input or troubleshoot something. They work great for commercial purposes because it's much more affordable per inch once you get over a certain size screen, even with maintenance, but for home setups it becomes harder and harder to recommend unless your looking for something bigger than 75" inches.

I would go with the biggest baddest TV you can find in your budget. Shop around there are deals going all the time.
