Changing from Windows to Ubuntu

I'm currently in the process of changing my OS from Windows 8.1 to Ubuntu but when I go to change the boot device to the USB it just boots straight back into Windows as though I just started it like normal.

Any suggestion?

How did you make the USB bootable?

Also, you can run Windows 10 without a license, you just get a small watermark and can't customize the start menu colors.

I think so, I used PowerISO to change the downloaded ISO to a bootable USB drive.

I know I can get Windows 10 without a licence, I don't want it.

I can access it from Windows Explorer and device manager, it just isn't recognised in Rufus!

Go to the power options in Windows, go to the option that lets you change what the off button does, enable advanced options, turn off fast boot. Then go to the start menu, hold shift and press restart. You should then boot into a menu that lets you choose to boot with the flash drive/UEFI device. It may be on the first level or under an option.
