Dark Rock 3 and RAM... is this OK?

atomicus

It fits, but it's TIGHT... less than 1mm from the RAM and the height is obviously blocking a bit of the fan. Should I be at all concerned about this from a cooling perspective? Will be using an OC'd and de-lidded 7700K.

As long as it isn't actually pressing on the RAM, you should be fine. Though you could swap out for Corsair LPX, since it's lower profile.

As long as the cooler isn't pressing on the RAM, you should be OK. There is still plenty of room for air-flow into for the fan, even with that small area being blocked.

No it's not pressing, small gap but a gap nonetheless. I didn't think it was a problem, but always good to get reassurance as it's not too late for me to return the cooler (it's not fitted yet). My only other option would be an AIO at this point, but that's going to be more than twice the price and only offer roughly equal performance.

You really should be fine. There's still more than enough room for airflow above the RAM module.

And yet you chose to go with RAM that offers 0 performance gain for its uber-high profile heatsink? You can always take heatsink off RAM to make it fit better.

I've had this RAM for a while, purchased off a friend for a steal, so it wouldn't have been my choice exactly, but I couldn't turn it down. If I replaced with lower profile, I'd be throwing money away. Besides, it's good RAM other than the height. I know the high heatsink does nothing.

I wouldn't go for other RAM just becuase it doesn't fit. But you CAN remove heatsink. Unless you are for the looks all the way. Then smaller heatsink is another option. Like H7 or Scythe Fuma.

How about just sliding the fan a bit upwards if your case has enough room.. Problem solved.

I can try that... my case doesn't have a whole lot of clearance, but when I've fitted it in I will see how much room I have. I'm guessing moving the fan up won't impact cooling much, if at all?

Yep, people do it all the time with dual tower coolers
