I need tips on grammar

AniJan

I'm bad at grammar.

When a word in a sentence is used in a way where it's unfamiliar to me, I get really confused. I've tried looking at various definitions of words to diversify usage, but I still get confused af. I'm afraid it's going to create a huge hindrance when writing essays or comprehending things. On top of that, I want to write a bit differently and structure my sentences more diversively, if that makes sense, because I feel like how I write right now is.. improper.

Anyone have tips on how I can fix this problem? Should I get grammar books or..?

Dictionary...get a dictionary app on your phone. Pick what you want, Oxford or Merriam Webster?

Grammar books might help, but you lack words, not rules.

You should read something that you find interesting, ideally something "new" (I mean written in the last 50 years or so to avoid learning obsolete* words). Novels, newspapers, video games, even research papers can help you improve. Movies, series and music help too but it's not as effective as reading.

At least that is how I improved my english and german so I hope that it will help you.

*Words don't get obsolete, they just change or get unused.

1.Read books, all the time. Sounds like something everyone would say but it helps :D

2. Write short stories to practice new words, (Obviously use the new words in the story)

3. Get a dictionary app on your phone

4 Get a Spelling game app on your phone

5. Keep a word book and write down any new words you learn and write down the definitions.

I am, and have always been, very good at grammar and punctuation and that sort of thing. I say that from teachers and others telling me that. I didn't study or do anything special to acquire this. The only thing I can attribute it to is that I read an absolute crapton as a kid. Reading really gets you to absorb that language.

i5 6600k and GTX 1070 but I play 1600-900. 1440p BABY!

Still, don't put too much faith in my buying decisions. xD
