Can a 1440p 144hz monitor work at 1440p 144hz with 1 dp

the only current consumer monitor that needs 2 is the new dell 8k monitor

there are diffrent standards of displayport its most likely 1.3 but i know 1.4 is on quadro and workstations etc

TBH I have never heard of a 1440p monitor that needs two DP.

My main PC (Hybrid Windows 10/Arch Linux):

Details: 12GB ram, GTX 1080, USB card passed through to windows 10 VM. VM's OS drive is the SATA SSD. Rest of resources are for Plex, Duplicati, Spaghettidetective, Nextcloud, and game servers.

I have a 1440p 144hz monitor and I only use 1 display port. It works very well. 

 

I don't think I have ever seen one that needed more than one. Even though my monitor has 2 the 2nd one is so it can have a second input not because it needs 2 to run. I would imagine any 144hz 1440p monitor you see advertised with 2 Dp inputs is the same. In fact to the best of my knowledge you could run a 144hz 1440p monitor off a USB 3.0 type-A to type-B cable.
