1440p 60hz to 3440x1440 60hz a worthy upgrade path?

Well, is it? My current monitor is a samsung s27d850t btw. I know my 1080ti is probably overkill for my current setup which is why I'm asking. A good friend of mine suggests my only true 'upgrade' at this point is going 4K or high hz 3440x1440. Which leads me to my next question: is GSync and high refresh rates worth the hype?

With the games listed it is well worth it. High refresh rate is worth it just for internet use. Variable refresh is also great in every game. Be careful though, once you try it you won't be able to play games again at lower refresh rate and without g-sync. I didn't believe it but you get frustrated and it takes over a week to transition back

Just keeping this here as a Getting a 1440p 120hz+ monitor with ULMB is your best upgrade path.  The high refresh rate makes for a lot better overall image quality and experience, and even in games like WoW you will notice the lower delay between frames that gives you better positional information.  You will die less to easy raid mechanics, be able to react much better in FPS games and it will generally feel like you get better registration.  The ULMB will get rid of frame persistence and basically means that you will get zero motion blur, combined with the lack of input lag and all-around you will be shocked how much better the total experience is.

 

I have the PG279Q and HIGHLY recommend it.
