Splashtop -> Remote Desktop

Good day ladz and gens,

so for some reason i want to remote access my computer when im not at home, for example in school. I have seen Linus and Slicks ghetto shield where they also used splashtop. But since i wanna use it outside of my wifi i have to purchase something. I dont know what though.

Right now i have the normal splashtop app for android on my s4 and the desktop streamer on my computer with win7 64bit

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.splashtop.remote.pad.v2

But this is free and there are two other options:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.splashtop.remote

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.splashtop.remote.pad

that cost some money. But for some reason theres also the abo i can do for 1.99$/month or 16,99/year to get my anywhere access.

My question is, where is the difference in all of this?

either i pay 3,75€ or 7,39€ or 1.99€/month to get the same?

If you have other apps that do the same im open for that aswell.

thx and greetings,

Flo.

Unless you have a more than great connection between your home and device latency will be a bitch, pretty much unusable.

Give this a shot, the latency isn't that bad over 3G.

It has some problems, but the developer is a pretty nice guy who updates it frequently and will always take requests on the forum.

It works fine for basic tasks too. What exactly do you want to be doing?

i dont know exactly basically ^^ I just want to check my F@H progress and maybe search through some of my files or start downloads. Nothing that takes to much bandwidth or anything.

Kainy would be capable of doing that.

If you have the money it wouldn't hurt to try Kainy, because it's quite a bit cheaper than the other ones. Just note that the setup process takes a while and sometimes it wont work at all.

As already someone mentioned, you can give a try to Teamviewer. It's great & plus it's free & besides that, Windows itself has built in "Remote desktop connection".

I once had teamviewer but i wasnt really amazed by it. it actually sucked hard...

So, does anyone know (since i have good experience with it) if i get the anywhere access if i purchase the 3,75€ Splashtop or if i have to pay the monthly fee there aswell?

  • 2 years later...

Splashtop anywhere access for 16.99 is somewhat disappointing - the route all your traffic to a server on US-West so it affects latency a lot, they don't allow you to establish a direct connection unless you use a VPN or Hamachi to simulate being on your home network.

Splashtop is a decent product but I wish they opened up basic features like that - makes me dislike their company

Just use the Microsoft RDP client, it's free sure you won't be able to stream a video, but you'll need to forward your port 3389 in your boarder router (your modem) and point it at the device you want to remote to.

If you want multiple devices, you'll want to look at teamviewer or the like (as i doubt your going to deploy a rdp gateway). Heck, it might be easier to just use Team-viewer.

Have you tried using R-HUB remote support server android app? You may try the same. It is freely downloadable from google play store.
