i5 6600k or ryzen 5 1600X?

Go to solution Solved by WereCat,

The R5 1600X is a better choice overall. i5 6600k is slightly better for most games at 1080p but a lot of games today start to utilize more cores and there are already some AAA games on which i5 struggles with its 4cores/4threads (Battlefield 1, GTA V for example).

I'm building a new PC this year and I have everything decided on except the CPU. I started with the i5 but then ryzen came out so I want to make sure I'm making the best choice. I will be using this PC for gaming so I have been looking at gaming benchmarks for the most part and every site says something different. Some games get better fps with intel while others get better fps with AMD. AMD has more cores and better multithreading will that help future proof it more than Intel? I'm new to PC building and I don't know exactly what to look for other than the fps they get in games. Any help is greatly appreciated! <3

1600 for more cores

i5 may be better in single threaded, but will you really miss that 3-5fps over missing 2 cores for future usage?

Ryzen 5 3600 stock | 2x16GB C13 3200MHz (AFR) | GTX 760 (Sold the VII)| ASUS Prime X570-P | 6TB WD Gold (128MB Cache, 2017)

Samsung 850 EVO 240 GB

138 is a good number.

Keep in mind if you go Intel get a proper mobo, same with AMD, their sockets are not interchangeable.

Get a R5 1600, good B350 mobo and a decent cooler.  OC the CPU

Win

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

Noice, though I'm interested : I just came back to the world of PC Specs, back in Jan 2016 I builded mine with a i5 6600k.  Is AMD actualy back in the CPU department, back then AMD wasn't even considered.

Yes, the Ryzen CPUs that were just released recently are a HUGE upgrade over what AMD had before. Intel is still a little bit faster per core, but with competitive prices the AMD chips are very viable now.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.
