200mm Fan Scews For 120mm Fans

Fellow Techies,

I have a problem. I was about to install new NZXT 120mm fans, but the screws they sent me fit a 200mm fan, The holes in the case are for smaller screws. Why did they send me those types of screws? Will all fans that I will buy be like that?

Instructions for frustration management:  

1) Sit at desk.   2) Repeatedly slam forehead against desk.

 

I never said I was smart, just smart enough to be dangerous.

Never heard of that. Pretty much all fan screws are the same size. Some may be slightly longer than others, but that is about it. From 60mm fans all the way 230mm, should be all the same. This is more likely an issue with a cheap case that isn't using the hole size for the screws.

Fan screws which screw into the fans are standardised, non-stantdard screwless mounting is used on some fans to attempt to reduce vibration noise.

However, some cases use non-standard mounting with different screws which go through the fan mount holes and screw into the case. Your case should have come with the correct screws in its accessories box if this is the case.

I got my Thermaltake Level 10 GT used. I didn't think about it, but the top "fan mount" is for a 240mm rad. So..... yeah. Dummy me. I would love to be able to mount two 120mm fans. But for now it will be just a 200mm fan.
