Google maps speed limit. What happened to it?

So about 8-9 months ago there were reports from people that google maps was starting to show the speed limits on the roads they were driving, a seriously overdue feature as such things have been on dedicated GPS and competing GPS apps for years.

It has been months since the first reports came out and so far neither me or anyone I know has had google maps start showing a speed limit indicator.

 

Did google just quietly kill this feature or is it something that is still slowly being rolled out?

I generally only seem to get it in bigger cities or freeways. Probably it's just a slow rollout.

The traffic doesn't care for the speed limit. Google probably has to be sure that the speed limits it obtains is correct and to what boundaries.

True, you want to look for a posted sign.

What I like such things for are when I get out of the cities/suburbs as there are many stretches of roads where there are many miles between posted speed limit signs and it sucks when I find I'd been going 40 or so for the last 10+ minutes when I could have been doing 55.

On the flip side it is always a little nerve wracking when I'm doing 45-55 because that when the last few roads I was last on were and see a 30mph sign and you breath a sigh of relief that there wasn't some highway patrol or what not along that stretch.
