Can I overclock my i7 6700hq ? and unlock ?

Go to solution Solved by Hiryuu,

Hello,

that not an overclock you just want it to run at it's boost clock all the time.

Try an app like intel XTU or Throttlestop

EDIT: be mindful of Temps :)

Can I overclock my i7 6700hq? I want to overclock it from 2.6 to 3.5 , can I unlock the proccesor ? I want my computer faster .

My laptop : Asus ROG GL552VX

You laptop is already fast, because you are simply using the sixth gen of I7 which runs at 2.6 and 8 gigs of ram. As far as I know laptop CPUs could not be unlocked. Or even if it is unlockable, you'll have to pay some good money to do that. (I guess ~50$)

 || CPU: Intel i5-8600K || Cooler: CoolerMaster Hyper 212X || Motherboard: Gigabyte Z370 HD3P || GPU: Gigabyte GTX 1050ti OC Windforce 4GB || Memory: 16GB Crucial DDR4 3000mhz || HDD: WD Black 500GB + Seagate Barracuda 2TB || SSD: Samsung 980 1TB || PSU: Corsair VS550 || Case: nJoy Ice Cage || Fans: Segotep Halo Ring RGB ||Monitor: 2x Dell 27" P2717H IPS Full HD || Second Monitor/TV: LG 49UJ620V UHD || Mouse: Logitech G502 || Keyboard: Logitech G810 + Royal Kludge RK84 || Speakers: Philips SPA-5300 subw + Arylic 2.1 + DIY Bookshelves w/ Dayton Audio || Headphones: HyperX Cloud Flight S ||

dont bother OCing your laptop, really, dont.

the only thing that's gonna be notably faster is the raise in thermals, and the draining of your battery.

laptops shouldn;t be overclocked because of the limited cooling capacity they have. the fans and heatsinks are manufactured around the stock TDP of the chip, any tampering might get your chip too hot for the cooling system to handle, and will result in your system throtteling harder or becoming unstable.

TL;DR, don't overclock laptops.
