Get a REALLY good CPU. Minecraft is CPU intensive.

This is kind of vague.

An overclocked Pentium G3258 would be much better as a minecraft server than a £2k Xeon.

I didn't really know where to put this so I stuck it here to be safe.

My question is what would make the best Minecraft server. I have an old 2U HP proliant Server that I'm using to host a pretty heavily modded server and the server lags pretty badly whenever chunks are loaded and overall isn't bad but also isn't brilliant. I was wondering what Hardware I'd actually require to run this server without it lagging at all because apparently 2 Xeons and 32Gb of RAM isn't good enough...

MC servers basically put all load on a single core, single core performane is everything

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

#1. Treat others as you would like to be treated.

#2. It's best to keep your mouth shut; and appear to be stupid, rather than open it and remove all doubt.

#3. There is nothing "wrong" with being wrong. Learning from a mistake can be more valuable than not making one in the first place.

Lol what else? You think servers have a GPU?

@Jekub You want to have as much as ram possible aswell. Especially if you want to use plugins. (32gb is more then enough though so thats not your problem).

Also monitor your internet. Maybe your internet is too slow to handle all the users.

PC: Case: Cooler Master CM690 II - PSU: Cooler Master G650M - RAM: Transcend 4x 8Gb DDR3 1333Mhz - MoBo: Gigabyte Z87x-D3H - CPU: i5 4670K @ 4.5Ghz - GPU: MSI GTX1060 ARMOR OC - Hard disks: 4x 500Gb Seagate enterprise in RAID 0 - SSD: Crucial M4 128Gb

Phone: Samsung Galaxy S6

Lags for me on a local connection so internet isn't an issue. The lag isn't terrible but its a minor annoyance
