Static help?

Go to solution Solved by TheRandomness,

I've built a PC wearing socks on a carpeted floor. People worry too much about static, but just touch something metal every now and then.

Hi!

Today is the day I'm gonna build my first PC, and I want to be a safe as possible. I need some help with static so I have some questions

-I have a dog, I haven't touched him since I showered (few minutes ago) is there any thing I should do with him?

-What does "grounded power supply" mean?

-I've heard I had to touch un-painted parts of my case to discharge myself. So just checking all I have to do is touch the inside of the PC every few minutes?

-Should I wear shoes, sandals, or go bare foot? (I have a tiled floor)

-Any other safety precautions I should take?

Thanks!

Ok so just touching the inside of the case every few minutes and I'll be fine?

You should wrap your dog in aluminum foil, then move to carpet and put socks on him and let him build it for you. That should be safe. :D

You are on a tiled floor, so you're fine.

Ground yourself by touching the pc case often enough. Keep your dog away from you while building. Grounded PSU means that when your PSU is plugged in, your case is grounded. This is true for all PSU's.

Wearing shoes (or anything buy socks) is a good idea, but since you're not on carpet, don't worry about it too much.

When in doubt, re-format.

I build all of my PCs on my bed. I've built a few PCs so far on it and the only time I've had a static problem was on my desk, not related to the building.
