How much do we know about Vega so far?

Popopopper

I didn't really follow CES that much, so I don't really know all that much about Vega other than that it's meant to be a high-end competitor to Nvidia's chips and that it'll come out later this quarter. Do we have any other info on it, like performance, cost (especially), or features?

I believe people are estimating it at 10% faster than a (OCed) 1080 right now in games.  That's subject to the quality of the estimates and limited data of course, but it's something.  That's in Doom on Vulkan by the way.  If we assume that it will pick up another 10% due to drive maturity, and factor in how the Fury X does in Vulkan vs OpenGL, and compare it with how the 1080 does in Vulkan vs OpenGL, I extrapolate that big Vega will be 20% faster than a 1080 in Vulkan things and about 95% as good in non-Vulkan things.

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

  • It has at least 12.5TFLOPS FP32 compute
  • 8GB HBM2 (maybe 16 but that's unlikely)
  • It performs around a GTX 1080 at least
  • The engineering sample used one 8 pin connector, so ~225w
  • It's estimated at 530mm2 (about 15% larger than a Titan XP) judging by the size of HBM2 stacks and comparing it to the P100 which is a bit larger
  • It has 512GB/s of memory bandwidth
