What is a motherboard standoff?

It's like a Mexican standoff, but with mainboards.

A mainboard standoff is a piece of hardware that screws into the mainboard tray, and lifts the mainboard off of the tray. This is done so that soldered points on the back of the mainboard do not contact metal trays, as well as help assure that the ATX standards work across cases.

Started building my PC last night, and there was one accessory part labeled motherboard standoff. Was wondering what it was, as it only came with one.

The stuff that separate mobo from the case so that stuff don't fall inside and get stuck and damage everything

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

Motherboard standoffs are there to space the motherboard away from the metal case prevent the motherboard from touching the metal on the case and shorting out, some cases have built in standoffs which are basicly just raised pieces of metal with screw hole in them and include the standard screw standoffs that you have to screw into the case to create that sepearation just to accomidate for different sized motherboards. Cases can either have built in standoffs or they sell you the screws which you have to screw in before you screw the motherboard in. Also the motherboard screws into the standoffs as there basicly just spacers.
