RX480 Gaming X target temp issue?

koniu82

I run today OCCT power supply test. After few seconds Screen is going black and fans in system (GPU,PSU,CPU, case,)start running at 100%. I need to hard close system and start it again.

Can there be possibility that entire GPU problem is a PSU fault  - PSU not giving enough power and card is start throttling. That can explain Throttling but not strange fan going 100% when temps are in middle 60.

Or because how hard Power supply stress test is it is forcing GPU to "safe" crash

As Ii say earlier PSU is only new hardware that was changed close to time when problems start.

EDIT. Lowering GPU clock and voltage restore System stability but card continue to throttling. I see clock drops to 900MHz

EDIT.2 I still believe it is GPU fault. But problem is not temperature but rather GPU Power limit. When using OCCT GPU/PSU test card is throttling even when temps are below 60C. Card is not limited by temp so another limit is Power. While when gaming or benchmarking in Tim Spy or Valley is close to card limit, OCCT PSU test must forcing card to safe crash because it hit max save power limit.

I decided to delay GPU RMA by few days.

Just to be sure it is not PSU fault i have ordered new one online. Same model RM550X from Corsair.

Should have it on Tuesday. I will test my PC with it so i should know if this is PSU or GPU problem.

It is safest and fastest way to do it.

If new PSU will change nothing i will RMA GPU. If New PSU  fix my problem i will RMA old PSU. In 48h i will be know what is wrong. Also it is cheapest way because I can return new PSU up to 14 days after purchase with 100% refund and shop can`t say no for return because of online shopping law in EU

I still believe it is GPU fault but want to be 100% sure it is not PSU

Waiting for PSU to test it

My last theory is overheating of VRM on card. To hot VRM can be source for power bottleneck of GPU ergo GPU will throttle. It will explain also OCCT test crash during PowerSuply test. VRM is to hot.  Also if GPU bios have VRM temp sensor in can  run fans at full trying to cool down VRMs even if GPU is cold

Hi. I know this is an old thread, but I am having similar issues with my card, same model. Mine throttles at around 64 C, VRM 69-70 C at that point. Did you ever figure it out?
