intel xeon e5-2660

hi, 

i was thinking of getting the cheap, old xeon e5-2660 cpu for a budget build computer, are there any micro-atx motherboards that support this cpu for under $120? i've heard its a great cpu and i wanted to try it out overclocked. Im aware i need a workstation motherboard but are there any on the market for a low-ish price?

LGA 2011 boards are pretty expensive right now. Under $200? probably not. I'd look for server boards, but those are going to be like E-atx and SSI EEB formfactors.

You might be able to work with an X79 motherboard. Couldn't tell you for sure though

When I said LGA 2011 boards are all really expensive, I mean ALL of them. x79 and server.

The cheapest is going to be $200+ used.

 

The only matx x79 board you will reasonably find is the oem alienware x79 board, and the cheapest will probabbly be an oem dell workstation board with proprietary connectors.

 

If you are going for a cheap workstation dual lga 1366 with two x5650s, or any other hex core cpus is a better cheaper option, lga 2011 really now is only worth it to go dual socket, with higher end chips like the e5 2670 or higher. But a dual socket board will be $350USD used at least.

 

If you plan on using this for gaming, don't 

games won't use the cores, and you are better off getting a sandybridge i5, like the 2400/2500, a nehalem i7, or a newer i3.
