Is the RX480 enough for 2560x1080?

Trav_X

I'm planning on doing a new build and I have two options. A 6700k + 480 or a 6500 + 1070. I want to be able to max out games in 2560x1080 when I'm playing alien and with friends, but I also want a card that can max out games at 1080p so I can record and stream for my YouTube and twitch channels. The i7 would really help in video editing and multitasking having OBS open and a game open like GTA and also having twitch chat and the stream running. Is the 480 powerful enough to max out games at 1080p and 2560x1080? Nothing like Crysis, but I want games like GTA and a bunch of common titles like PAYDAY, CSGO, TF2, SMITE, and some new titles that may come at the end of this year. Also, I would consider CrossFiring another RX480 next year or later.

My maximum budget is $1000 USD.

If you want the i7 you could go with one 480 now and deal with a little bit of low fps at times and get another one later for cheap

Are you saying go with the 480 and crossfire later?

I would definitely consider CrossFiring next year or later cause I want to buy this build near Black Friday end of the year

Yea that's what he's saying: keep the i7 and cf the 480's (get the second one on black friday or cyber monday...?)

The i7 will really be the final factor in deciding whether you can stream or not. You can lower some settings to help your card keep up with the streaming but there's not alot you can do to make it easier on your processor.

Shipping sucks

Yeah :) my main concerns are the fact that a i5-6500 will not perform well in streaming or editing. That's why a think a 6700k would be safer. My other concern is whether an RX480 can keep a constant 60FPS in games at WFHD (2560x1080) and regular 1080p.

Also consider adding a 250GB SSD to this build, to put the OS and a few games

If you go on youtube you'll probably find hundreds of bench marks performed on the 480.

I don't actually know how it does.

It's completely fine. I have it and it does 45+ FPS in Witcher 3 ON 3440X1440p max preset w/out anti-aliasing.

Well if you'd find an extra 100$, you'd get a better PSU, cooler and SSD. Czech this out: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/G6pW4C

If he's streaming though an i5 won't cut it at all.

I'd recommend the i7/1070 build. It wouldn't struggle whatsoever playing at that res or streaming. But you really do need a SSD.

$7-ish over budget. Idk how well the 480 performs. You could cross fire later on. You get a ssd. Seems like a solid build to me.

Cheaper RAM and case, sure, but the PSU is not good, and whatever you do, you want a good PSU.

You could cheap out on the case and go with the Zalman Z1, taht's 25$, and buy something nicer to transplant the PC to when you have some more money.
