My first-ish build

So a while back i posted asking for advice on my PC build list, it was fine for the time before the new generation of GPUs but since then i hav e not been able to build it because of other financial problems. so i've held off and edited my build to utilize these new cards and see what i can get.

 

My goal for this build are:

1080p gaming at max to ultra settings,

Possible twitch streaming.

some light video editing.

Must be able to run a game at the settings mentioned and have a voice chat and a browser running all at the same time.

My limit is $2000CAD, I am in need of the following:

A GPU to meet the requirements above.

A case with room for one optical drive that does not look horrible. i still have a lot of DVDs and CDs that i love.

One optical drive that doubles as a blu-ray reader and writer.

A pair of 21" monitors that have HDMI and displayport.

 

As always, i am open to suggestions and changes if they don't impact performance but lower cost. I have all other peripherals required so please do not suggest any of those.

slap a 1080 on it and put it in some case you like and you should be fine, you can get the monitors for around $100 or so(for just basic monitors) and the case i would say go for an entho pro, im pretty sure that has 2 3.5" bays and i cant help you with the other stuff but if it gets to expensive then go for a 1070 because the 1080 is pretty overkill tbh

Get 1070 (it maxes out all the games 90+ FPS) or wait for 1080ti.  1080 has terrible value.

Hey Kahman, has the supply of GTX1070's stabilised in Canada? If yes, I would pick up a custom rev. of that card from eVGA or GIGABYTE.

 

Apart from that, for the chassis, if you want something that looks decent and comes with some internal frills, check out the following (no particular order),

• Cooler Master MasterBox 5
• NZXT Source 530
• Corsair Carbide 400C
• Be Quiet! Silent Base 600

The Phantek's Enthoo line is wonderful but I have never had the pleasure to work with them because they do not have their hardware in my country. =[

 

For monitors I would suggest any decent model with the thinnest bezel's possible from BenQ or DELL should keep you sorted. LG is also a contender but they are limited to IPS-panel based displays

For 1080p (if you don't plan on upgrading for a while), a single GTX 1060 or RX 480 should suffice. As for a case, I'm a bit of a Fractal Design fan, since their cases are minimalistic and clean.

This does not include any monitors or anything other than what i have listed. I don't know if i was not clear that the $2000CAD limit was to include monitors.

For that price I would definitely get either a ASrock Extreme Z170 or an ASUS board, MSI has been kinda funky these days...

Considering OP is sticking to 1080p-60fps gaming for now, would it be better to scale back on the processor to a Core i5 6600k and keep the rest of the build same.

 

Or is the quad-core non-hyperthreaded Core i5 simply too anemic for the task at hand?

I think you can take other members opinions in the performance ▲ between a Core i5 6600k or Core i7 6700k and if there is not sufficient difference to justify the latter, you can go for the relatively cheaper Core i5 and stuff in your second monitor.
