So I have been using a 2012 Macbook Pro (13") for about 4 days as laptop. Here is my review (Of the Apple Experience in General)

 

Backstory: I got the laptop because my Cousin got a new Macbook with no need for the old one. I paid $0 for the laptop, so no I wasted no money on a mac. Score

 

Use: So throughout my use I had to spend 24 hours doing updates and installs. The first thing I did was re-format the HDD to get rid of old information. I had to re-format like 3 times because I kept screwing up and every time it went to sleep it stopped. Once I had that figured out I installed OS X Mountain Lion or something. I immediatly updated to El Capitan after that (About 20 hours down (Slow Internet). After I had finished that I installed Windows 10 for games and stuff. It is pretty easy to get into Windows or OS X. The backlit keyboard is great. The Magnetic Charger is great.

 

Pros:

>Lighter than my previous laptop (Dell Inspiron N5110)

>Backlit Keyboard

>Magnetic Charger

> Decent Battery Life

>Better Graphics than my old laptop

>Scrolling on web pages can be done from mousepad

>One handed operation for basic web browsing

>Not super heavy

 

Cons:

>Gets Really hot while at desktop

>Sharp Metal Edges

>Need to press and hold option to enter boot menu (Could be fixed if it automatically loaded into this)

>Would be expensive if bought either new or refurbished

 

I would use OSX for web browsing because its pretty good at that. Windows for everything else

 

Final Thoughts: I would pay like $900 for a Macbook Pro new. If you can snag one for like $500 it wouldn't be a bad grab if it is in 'eh' condition.

 

This will be my laptop for the next 2 ish years until I get a Razer Blade.

 

I would add an SSD and throw in 16Gb of RAM to seed it up.

 

This is a wierd review, but I figured I would put it out for anyone looking at a Macbook Pro

Im not sure. I know the resolution is 1280x800

True, but i think youd have loved the retina pro even more !

I am using this 2012 non-retina macbook with a SSD in it, and connected it to an external monitor. 

While ditching my kick ass PC aside. 

That's how much I love OS X. 

It will take you a while to get used to it, but when you do, you will never go back. 

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

Yeah. For me their Macs are good. Owned 4of them. But last year I bought a iPhone 6. The phone's silent button broke within half a year. I went to the apple store ,they swap me a brand new iPhone 6. The half a year later the new one's touchid broke.. so this time they offered to replace the screen. Fine. After they replaced the screen , I find that sometimes screen won't turn itself off. Like you set it to 30 second , then your phone will light up for a whole day.  I went back to them but they said this problem is not a consistent one. Sometimes it is just bad luck.  I have owned 3 iphones previously, none of them had any single issue . 2 of them are second hand one. Not an issue at all. 

 

Don't be upset. We've all been there. 

If you buy other products you will also have a chance to get the bad sample. It's probability .

I sold the Macbook back in 2014.
