Audio Setups

Torand

So guys, what audio setups are we rocking? Post anything here from headphones to full blown 7.1 surround systems as a cinema setup.

My current config:

KRK Rokit Powered 5 G2's (pair)

KRK 10s G2

Motu 8Pre (Firewire)

M-Audio Fast Track Ultra

All hooked up on balanced cables, and for anyone not using balanced cables, go get some now! Never use RCA. :)

Anyone in need of audio advice as well, feel free to post. Been in audio for around 4 years prior to doing my Computer Science course, so i'd like to think i know a thing or too so feel free to test me on that. Hardware, software, anything. :P

Have a good stay! :D

All I've got right now is an ASUS Xonar DG and Sennheiser HD 280 Pros. The headphones have served me well for over 3 years, but hopefully I can upgrade soon as I'm trying to get more into music production. Some open headphones with more bass would be nice; the HD 598 looks pretty good.

Mine is pretty simple. Asus Xonar Essence ST sound card with Sennheiser HD598 headphones. Incredible sound quality for the price.

I also have a pair of Audio-Technica ATH-M50 that I mainly use when playing the guitar through my Pod HD500, and they sound pretty darn awesome when I want to listen to heavy stuff.

Asus Xonar DGX soundcard, Blue Snowball for mic and Panasonic RP-HTF600 for headphones (good luck trying to get

a hold of these cans for a decent price in Canada, but still better than anything else at that price point)

Interface: Presonus 44VSL

Headphones: Audio-Technica ATH-M50

Microphone: Electro-Voice RE27

The ATH-M50s where a real pain to get in Canada. Had to fork out a ton for shipping and customs to Amazon because Canadian dealers had them way overpriced at the time.

Hehe - currently two QSC KW122's behind me and two QSC K8's as front LR fill. There's also a KW181 sub and then processed through DBX GEQ, comp/limiter and Xover. Soon to add a full soundcard but USB interface with my mixer will suffice for now. Gets more fun when I have one or two JBL SRX728's in here while playing MOH (dual 18" subwoofers. Is 5kw of raw power needed? No. Is it fun? Yes.

Gotta love my job.

Also as offered by the OP - feel free to ask me anything audio, I certainly don't know everything but I work in live audio so I can probably help you out :)

Got those as well. Best quality headphones i've ever heard, especially as the bass is amazing for closed backs. Had them so long now ive already had to replace the ear cups which only took around a minute, love them! :D

Haha, they look AWESOME. To be honest my 10s is overkill, i've already had turn the gain down (-30db) for it to even balance with my rokit 5's. But theres always, ALWAYS, the reason of fun, right? Yes. Because audio is awesome. xD

My setup at the moment is:

Asus Xonar D2x -> TOSLink -> Audio-gd 10.2 -> Balanced output -> HiFiMan HE-300

2013-01-03%2016.19.11.png

I have also got some powered Audioengine A5 speakers on Sinn7 desk foam stands and a Project Debut III record player for stuff that can't be sourced on digital media.

Some nice setups in here, seems we also have some keen audiophiles (i know its a correct term, but it sounds 'dirty' to me, hmm?) in here!

Another tip is using sound insulation foam. Personally i use Aualex MoPads for my monitors, and i would really like one for my sub but £60 is hard to justify.

The main advantages i noticed;

- Instant isolation from the surface it is sitting on, leading to...

- Alot clearer bass frequencies and...

- It allowed for the mids to really open up.

- As they can be propped at an angle, it really allows for proper speaker alignment, which is:

Tweeters at ear level with you sat in an equilateral triangle to your speakers. This is more necessary in monitor speakers, not so much in cinema setups.

Currently running a pair of Sennheiser HD380's with an Asus Xonar DGX. Highly satisfied with it, at least for the time being.

If you like them, try the Dennon AH-D2000's - really nice flat response across most of the range, my personal pick for work.

I get it all through work and stuff, the most fun I've had was across my back wall putting 6 VRX932LAP's which are a 12" + 3x1" line array box - now that was fun.
