How to control a NAS

Hey so I'm in the process of designing and building a  NAS and I need to know how to control the NAS. Videos and explanations are much coveted.

What do you mean 'control'? As in software? In that case you have a plethora of options. Freenas is a stable, yet hard to configure solution. You can also use NAS4FREE, but who uses that anyway? amiright? (jk) I personally use xpenology. It's a modded kernel that is capable of running synology's DSM.

My native language is C++

If you need to learn that, then I would recommend not diving into it yet, but instead research nas's first.
